This picture was my first major breakthrough in inking in a very long time.
I noticed that Cornelius often made some pencils lighter than other pencils for effect. As an inker I've always used black ink on white paper. With this inking I did something different, I started using different degrees of black (gray) and then added minor variations of light washes in shaded areas.
This art could still be colored by colorists but it now has the look of pencils while still being fully inked. I personally think this is the single best page I've ever done, but then again, I'm the only one who knows how much I had to put into it.
The previous Cornelius works had a little of this going on but I was frustrated by his subtle contrasts in those pencils and I wanted to make this one look much more like those pencils.
If no one else can see the difference, I'm okay with that. But from now on, more of my stuff will look like this when I'm dealing with detail oriented pencillers. At least I HOPE it will look more like this.
